Privacy policy

This privacy policy explains what Online Diff Checker (the website at onlinediffchecker.com) does and does not do with information when you use the tool. It applies to this site only.

The comparison never leaves your device

The diff is computed in JavaScript in your browser. The original and changed text — including files you load with Load file — is not sent to onlinediffchecker.com, and is not sent to anyone else, as part of comparing it. There is no account system and no comparison API.

Do not email us the paste. We do not need it, and a mailbox is not the same promise as the in-browser tool. See contact us.

What stays on your device

• The original and changed text, in the two editors, until you clear them or close the tab.
• Optional history, in this browser’s localStorage under a key prefixedodc.history. Clear it from the History panel.
• Color scheme. Dark is the default. If you switch, the choice is stored underodc.theme.

Toolbar preferences (Ignore whitespace, Ignore case) are not saved. We do not encrypt localStorage. Treat it like any other file on the machine.

What a page request can include

This is a static website. Loading a page sends the usual HTTP metadata: IP address, user agent, referrer, and the path you asked for. That request does not include the contents of the editors.

The host or CDN that serves the files may log that metadata in order to deliver the site, absorb abuse, and keep the network up. Those logs are not a copy of your diff. If the site is published on Cloudflare, Cloudflare’s own terms and privacy notice apply to that infrastructure.

Cookies and analytics

We do not set our own analytics cookies, and we do not run a separate analytics product. A host or CDN may set a technical cookie to operate the network (for example a bot-management cookie). That is not used by us to identify you across sites.

If Google AdSense is showing ads on this site, Google and its partners may set cookies as described below. Those cookies are for advertising. They are not used to send us the text in the editors.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

This site may display ads served by Google AdSense. Ads are separate from the diff: the comparison still runs in your browser and is not uploaded in order to show an ad.

Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to your website or other websites.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to your users based on their visit to your sites and/or other sites on the Internet.

Users may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info.

What we do not collect

• The text you paste or the files you load, as part of running a comparison.
• Accounts, names, or payment details — there are none.
• A mailing list. The contact address is only if you write to us.

If you email contact@onlinediffchecker.com, we receive whatever you put in that message, plus standard mail metadata. Use that address for the website, not for the documents you are comparing.

Children

The site is a general-purpose developer and writing tool. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your choices

• Clear the editors, or close the tab, to drop the current paste.
• Clear History in the tool to drop optional localStorage history.
• Clear this site’s data in your browser to drop theme and history keys.
• Do not use the tool on a shared computer if the paste must not remain on that machine.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date below. Continued use of the site after a change means you have read the new policy.
